For the past few years, I've been telling myself I'm going to cut back on spring shows because I just don't do very well. Sometimes I don't even sell enough to cover the table rent.
So, what am I doing this spring?
5 shows in March and April
To be honest, sometimes I think I'm not cut out to do craft shows. To be sitting at my table for five hours, having people walk by and say stuff like "I don't need that junk" or "I could make that myself" can be tough! Going hours between sales is tough on the self-esteem (and the spreadsheet!). I need to work on being positive, keeping a smile on my face, and putting my best foot forward.
So most of my focus for March will be to make items that are usually sure-fire hits at craft shows: mermaids, unicorns, hedgehogs, lizards.
I still have five items that I need to remake to reactivate Etsy listings:
Mini Sloth - DONE, made two, but one is a custom order!
Bee - DONE, but sold 3/9... need to remake again! 😊
Cupcake Penguin
Flying Pig
Standing Gecko
There will be a new Ami-Along coming up... Hoping it's something really cute this month! I liked last month's monkey, and might make a few more of those! Not too sure about this one... it's a swan...I'll have to make one up and see how it sells. Doesn't look like best-seller material to me.
I've been trying to stay on top of keeping my work area more organized, putting away yarn left over from projects, filing (rather than piling) patterns, and keeping my supplies easily accessible (I hate searching for my favorite hook, a tape measure, or a row counter all the time!)
So, if I can (1) keep up with orders (7 items, but I cannot post pictures until they have been gifted), (2) have 2x table fee at each of March's craft shows, and (3) get 4 Etsy sales (DONE!), I will declare March to be a smashing success.
(2) - March 9 show - $5 shy of hitting the 2x table fee mark.
- March 23 show - almost 3X table.
So this month's focus is:
Be Positive
Be Organized
Be Productive
March 4 - Three orders and the prize from my Facebook Giveaway ready to go in today's mail!
Since I had two shades of pink left over from the Peeps Puppet order, I decided to make a pink striped snake... Then I had a tiny little ball of pink, so I decided to try making a nose warmer (might sell a few as gag gifts at my craft shows!). I ran out of yarn with one ear loop left to go, so I went to my pink scrap canister (an old pretzel bin) and found a matching pink. But I also found some hot pink fun fur that demanded it be made into a hedgehog...
Then I got back on track, making stuff from my list. I finished up a cute little bee.
But... while I was looking for the black yarn for the bee, some green yarn hopped out at me and demanded to be made into a gecko! (LOL, I seem to have such demanding yarn!)
A bunny bag wasn't on the list, either... but I figured Easter stuff would be a good addition to my table. |
Another case of yarn calling out to me... I saw some pastel ombre and wondered how it would work up as a snake. |
